Summary: "excellent for special needs!"
My now six-year-old son received these for his birthday. Dealing with fine motor skills as we do, this was an excellent shoe for his needs. For the first time, my son is able to put on his shoes independently, which gives him self-confidence. I LOVE that they are machine washable; play shoes and school shoes in one!

My daughter, now 5 yrs old, has been wearing these shoes since we got our first pair handed down to us when she was a toddler (although I've since learned from a children's podiatrist, it's not recommended to wear second-hand shoes.) So many great things about this shoe -- very flexible sole (also recommended by the podiatrist), easy for little kids and older to strap them closed with the single velcro strap, shoe tongue is seamed on one side so it stays in place, and they're completely WASHABLE! Downside is they cost more than I'd prefer to spend on shoes for a quickly growing kid but can't find anything as good for less so mostly we just have a single pair at a time.

This is our 2nd pair of these sneakers for my now 38 month old. They are easy on, easy off with a very wide velcro closure. They are light and airy shoes as well. Works fine for us in all months. After her first pair wore thin we tried many shoes on for a replacement, we struggled to get a good fit out of any other shoe. The design of these shoes also prevents sand from play grounds from getting inside. Looking forward to trying so other shoe styles from Tsukihoshi.

I have to begin with saying my boy has a rather thick foot and normally requires at least a wide if not extra wide shoe. I was skeptical when the shoe store guy brought these out since usually a regular width shoe can't even go on my son's foot. And he's super-freaky about the way his shoes feel on his feet. He sees shoes he *wants*, ones that light up, have fun characters on them, etc, but the second they're on his feet he cries that they hurt.
Back to the tsukihoshi line...they are great. The fit is wonderful for my son and the plus is that they are so incredibly lightweight. The soles are made of some really lightweight stuff almost like a croc. No heavy clunky shoes on a toddler. Even better is that the whole shoe is machine washable. If your kid likes to dig in the dirt like mine that's a nice feature. I will buy again and again.
